FreeRice – addictive, fun vocabulary game to help end world hunger!

Written on November 10, 2007

I’ve been enjoying playing the vocabulary game at FreeRice . It’s challenging and addictive, good exercise for the brain, plus, for every correct answer, ten grains of rice are donated to the United Nations World Food Program!

Thanks to LanguageHat and Metafilter.

Does anybody miss the link previews? I recently turned off “Snap Shots” because they started having ads, but I liked the way the previews worked with Amazon to show a little summary & price information for books. I’m looking around for a way to get that functionality back….

  1. Comment by Leisureguy:

People who want previews can get CoolIris Previews as a Firefox add-in, assuming that they use Firefox (as who doesn’t). This does put the burden on the reader rather than the site, but I like having the choice and the control. I hated Snap Shots when it would pop up notices that I didn’t want. YMMV, of course.

Thanks Leisureguy. I tried Interclue, also a Firefox add-on, but when it gets to Amazon it doesn’t show any specific book information, which was the feature of Snap I really liked. I’ll check out CoolIris. (I know a lot of people dislike Snap Shots.)
